Preserving Architectural Legacy: The Kalil House and Its Journey
to the Currier Museum
In 2019, a remarkable piece of American architectural history found a new steward—and we, The Paula Martin Group, were honored to be part of the story.
The Toufic H. Kalil House, designed by the legendary Frank Lloyd Wright, was sold to the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, NH.
This wasn’t just a real estate transaction- it was a moment of cultural preservation.
Built in 1955, the Kalil House is one of only seven surviving examples of Wright’s Usonian Automatic Designs, a concept that aimed to make beautiful, functional homes more accessible to the average American family.
Crafted from interlocking concrete blocks featuring over 350 windows, the home is a testament to Wright’s vision of harmony between structure and nature. Its minimalist line, integrated design, and original kitchen appliances remain largely intact- a rare and inspiring time capsule of mid-century innovation.
Thanks to an anonymous donor, the Currier Museum acquired the property for $850,000, adding it to their growing collection of Wright-designed homes. This acquisition made the Currier the only museum in the world to own two Frank Lloyd Wright houses, deepening its commitment to architectural education and public engagement.
As the Paula Martin Group, we were proud to represent this extraordinary listing. Facilitating the transfer of such a historically significant property was a privilege— and a reminder of how real estate can intersect with art, culture, and legacy.
The Paula Maritn Group believes every home has a story and we are ecstatic we were a part of preserving this piece of American Architectural history.
Whether you're buying, selling, or simply dreaming, we’re here to help you find your place in the narrative.
